Phitsanulok - land of the flying vegetables

Left Lopburi and took and 2nd class train to Phitsanulok ( 3 ½ hours), arrived to a vibrant town and an inked tuk tuk (sort of) driver who took us to our little hotel (Li Thai Guesthouse - recommended!).

Checked in then walked through the town to admire all the Chinese New Year decorations, Chinese dragons and drummers through the street. Ended up at the night market and had dinner by the huge river - best SPRING ROLLS ever full of fresh veg, we had to force ourselves to stop ordering them.

This is a really lovely place, full of delicious fresh food, including the famous flying vegetables (a man throws fried veggies up in the air at a Farang (foreigner), who then proceeds to catch them in a Trash Can lid) to the beat of a drum. Dave and I cleaned up at the Fresh food night market with bananas, pineapple, freshly cooked sweet corn, Jelly etc etc. Had the best chocolate banana pancake ever, watching these get made is awesome - a real art form.

Found the Australia Network Channel on TV today (wiggles are on now), took a frog shaped Tuk Tuk’s to and from the ‘most beautiful’ Buddha in Thailand, which was amazing and so shiny it was almost impossible to take a picture. Then walked through the scorching heat to the train station to inquire about tickets to Chang Mai, which we will head to tomorrow. We will be lucky enough to spend Chinese New Year  there, which so far is a huge affair in every place we have been to in Thailand (at least 300 people every night blocking off roads to put up lights and other decorations).

On the last night we went to the night Bizarre again in search of a tuk tuk to get us to the floating restaurants and banana pancakes. We could find neither. So we asked a nice Thai man, how far? He said 500m, and according to Dave’s map which was not to scale, it was 500m. So we started trekking down a rather dark main-ish road. 2500 meters later we arrived, unscathed but hot and slightly tarnished by the 6000 dogs and 2000 scooters we had to dodge on the way. Dinner was lovely, apart for witnessing a man washing the same dish our veggies were sitting on, in the river!

Pictures of our first night by the Khwae No river (where you'll find the best spring rolls ever!), the beautiful Buddha, Dave talking to the Tuk Tuk driver, Dave with Jez (round Buddha) and a kitty asleep on top of a scooter at the night Market.
